About CNU
Why CNU?
CNU offers a private liberal arts education with dedicated professors and small classes. Location, location, location: we’re surrounded by natural beauty and monuments to American history. Because of momentum: we’re building dazzling new facilities and winning raves for academic excellence.

Here are a few more reasons to choose CNU:

Our strong reputation. Recently, The Washington Post listed CNU as an “undiscovered gem.” In recent years, applications have gone up by more than 400 percent, and our students’ SAT average has increased by more than 200 points. Is it any wonder? Nearly 90 percent of our faculty members hold the highest degree in their fields, and we offer the best value around.

Our intimate learning environment. We average only 24 students a class, so your CNU professors will get to know you as an individual. Our faculty have professional experience - as Fulbright Scholars, researchers, consultants, business owners, and attorneys - but their first passion is teaching.

Our outstanding student life. CNU’s campus is bursting with new buildings and improvements. Our four new residence halls and two new apartment complexes were rated "best in the state" by students, and we’ve opened a $16 million sports and convocation center and a $54 million center for the arts. With over 100 clubs, 23 successful athletic programs, and myriad cultural and social events, the campus buzzes with activity.

Our dream location. CNU’s 260-acre campus is located in Newport News, Virginia, in the heart of one the nation’s most historic - and beautiful - areas. Right next door you’ll find one of the largest maritime history museums in the world, nestled in a 550-acre wooded park; just a short drive away are significant historic sites and great beaches on the Virginia coast.
