CNU Students Helping to Build Homes

Students enrolled in CNU’s President’s Leadership Program spent their spring break in South Carolina, helping Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity build homes so impoverished families in the community could also achieve “the American dream.” This national volunteer effort is part of Habitat for Humanity’s 20th Annual Collegiate Challenge, inviting university students to spend their spring break helping to build homes for the needy. This year, more than 12,000 students will help build homes in 200 locations across the United States.

“It's cool just to know that it's going to be a home for someone, even though it's just a piece of wood right now,” said CNU senior Chris Inzirillo.

Patricia Carey Wirth of the Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity noted there is a huge demand for these homes. “The population we serve is always in need of simple, decent places to live, probably more now than ever; the need never stops no matter how fast volunteers can build them.”

By lending a helping hand, the eleven CNU students hope their efforts will help break the cycle of poverty, and are comforted in knowing they had a hand in making life better for someone else, one nail at a time.
